…all is not lost, just read on…
Installing AutoCAD 2000 LT on Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 32bit or 64bit can be very easily defined in these short steps…
NOTE: These steps do not bypass normal Autodesk licensing/authorization, you should expect to use your own serial numbers in the normal way.
A quick word of advice: best to follow the instructions below precisely and to the letter, including folder names and paths, that way you will reduce the risk of having any problems…
- Obtain your copy of the Longbow Converter here
- Before starting, we recommend turning off Windows UAC before installing AutoCAD LT 2000
- Using Windows Explorer you need to make a copy of your original LT 2000 installation CD…
- Copy your entire AutoCAD LT 2000 CD to your hard drive, specifically to a folder path named c:AutodeskCDsacadlt2000
- Start the Longbow Converter tool…
- select the 2nd tab named “Old AutoCAD Installer Reviver“
- pick the newly copied c:AutodeskCDsacadlt2000folder
- click the “Run Old Installer” button…
- Read and understand all the prompts before clicking “OK”.
- Now, I know it’s unheard of these days, but at this point expect to wait at least 45 minutes for your AutoCAD LT 2000 setup.exe program to fully appear. Once the setup starts, stop and read the next step…
- In the setup program, navigate through each setup dialog as normal, except when you get to the installation folder path input – **it’s vitally important to make sure you install your LT 2000 program files to c:acadlt2000 (not Program Files (x86)AutoCAD LT 2000 as usually prompted)**
- Towards the end of the installation an error will appear like “Cannot create folder Autocad LT 2000” – simply click OK and ignore this message, you will need to create a shortcut on your Desktop to c:acadlt2000aclt.exe by hand once the installation is finished.
- Do not reboot if prompted to do so
- Once you have fully closed your LT 2000 setup program…
- go back to the Converter tool
- select the 3rd tab named “Old AutoCAD Program Reviver“
- pick the newly installed c:acadlt2000folder and then click the “Fix Old Program” button.
- Now you can happily run your AutoCAD LT 2000 on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10!
- Plotting – if you are having plotting issues, either
- Download Autodesk DWG TrueView 2015 – it’s free and allows the latest plotters and plotting configurations.
- If you are getting a WinHelp() error when pressing F1 to try and access the Help system then simply install the WinHelp (WinHlp32.exe) module from Microsoft
- If you have crashing problems using the File->Open or File->Save dialogs inside of AutoCAD please read this blog entry on the File->Open or File->Save Crash in AutoCAD
Install AutoCAD LT 2000 on 64bit Windows 7 and 8
I had a hard time installing AutoCAD LT 2000 on 64bit Windows 7 computer at work due to computer upgrade. It won’t install out of the box.
The root problem in installing is that AutoCAD 2000 has an ancient 16bit installer that won’t run on 64bit Windows. AutoCAD itself is 32bit and works once installed.
Install Autocad 2000 On Windows 10
I did some research and found that I’m not the only one with the problem. One common suggestion to get AutoCAD working is installing a virtual machine called Windows XP mode from Microsoft. It would have been too slow and clumsy to use.
Another possible solution is commercial Longbow converter. I only happened to find that one after I got my AutoCAD running.

Solution
All thanks to my solution belongs to this post on Autodesk forums. What I did was make install script that basically does automatically the steps on that guide. Then I made a new modified installation CD for future use. I won’t share you the whole CD, but the files and easy guide needed to make one yourself with your own CD.

The installation
Install Autocad 2000 On Windows 7 64 Bit
- Copy contents of the installation CD to your hard drive.
- Download the installation files and extract the contents in the directory containing AutoCAD CD contents. When extracting, overwrite the existing files.
- Now burn that directory to a CD and you have a new install CD to use (or you can install AutoCAD straight from the hard drive).
- Start the installation by running WIN7-INSTALL.bat(or WIN7-INSTALL-FI.bat for finnish install instructions) and follow the instructions on the command prompt that opens up.
- The just made installation CD has Default programs editor in WIN7-Default_Programs_Editor directory. Use that to give .DWG and .DXF files fancy icons.
- Have fun using AutoCAD! Remember: Do not expect it to work seamlessly on all conditions. It is a really old program on a new operating system and has it’s glitches. In my case the ups were bigger than the downs.
